For monument preservation the 3D laser scanning technology reveals a great advantage. Especially for historical buildings, seldomly plans exist that can be used for preservation.
From the gathered 3-dimensional data it is a quick and easy process to generate 3-dimensional plans. A conventional cumbersome data collection is not necessary.
An additional advantage is, that cracks within a wall can be visualized immediately including their depth and width.
